SAMHAIN
Cupboard Incense for Samhain
1 part Rosemary
1 part Sage
Either the rosemary or the sage can be used by itself. Traditionally, Rosemary is *the* herb for Samhain, as it denotes remembrance.
Medium-Complex Incense for Samhain
1 part Frankincense, crushed 1 part Sandalwood 1 part Myrrh
1 part cinnamon 1 part rosemary A few drops clove oil
crush all herbs to desired consistency. (Sometimes I'll leave the resins such as Myrrh and Frankincense in tiny pieces - not powdered. It's personal choice) Blend all solids together in a glass jar. Add clove oil one drop at a time, mixing well after each drop. 3-5 drops is usually all I ever need. Clove oil is strong stuff! This incense may be a bit dough-like depending on the amount of oil you add. Do it to your preference. If it helps, use a small spoon to scoop out the incense and place on your burning charcoal.
Like all incenses, this benefits from a period of setting. Minimum is a month. Check after two weeks, adjust any ingredients to suit your nose. You can take a pinch for a trial run on a charcoal at this time. It won't give you the full scent, but it will give you an idea of the scent.
Complex Incense for Samhain
This is how my finished Samhain Incense looks. The texture is very moist and it tends to clump together.
Here's the recipe:
1 dried Oak Leaf, crushed 1 part Rosemary 1 part Patchouli
1 part Frankincense, crushed 1/2 part vervain 1/2 part Cedar or Sandalwood
1/2 part Dragon's Blood, crushed a few drops of honey a few drops sage or rosemary oil
Mix ingredients as per Medium-Complex Incense above. However - be aware that this incense can be very moist, depending on the amount of honey and oil you add. You can reduce this amount if your trial run shows it smokes too much.
Samhain Ritual Salt
1/4 cup Dead Sea Salt
1 tsp crushed Rosemary
Pinch of powdered Dragon's Blood
Pinch of Vervain
Samhain Fire Mist
I use this for everything - scenting the room when I don't want to light incense, scenting linens or as a room spray. I've been known to use it to scent my ritual robes. Every time I use it, people immediately gravitate to me, and ask what it is. I make this for several Witch friends to give out at Mabon every year so they have it for the season. I purchase the ingredients from Wholesale Supplies Plus, but you can use any body spray base with any combination of scents you prefer.
7oz. Luxury Moisturizing Mist
10 drops Caramel Tobacco Fragrance Oil
5-10 drops Witches Brew Fragrance Oil
5-10 drops Black Amber Fragrance Oil
***adjust scent to your nose. I use 10 of each, but have found reducing the Caramel Tobacco also reduces the richness that rounds out the whole scent.
This makes a full 8oz. mist spray bottle.
I use those same fragrances to make a Samhain soap. When I sell soaps and candles at craft shows, I simply re-name them "All Hallow's Eve Fire" and anything with those scents FLY off the display - the scents separately and mixed create a warm, smoky scent that appeals to almost everyone.

YULE
Cupboard Incense forYule
1 part Cinnamon
1 part Clove
Either the Cinnamon or the Clove can be used by itself. The downside to this is that cinnamon and clove both tend to smell acrid when burned. However, it is the magical connotation you are going for. You can mix crushed, dried oak leaves in for a scent reminiscent of a wood fire burning. Dried oak leaves add good bulk to an incense, and lend a good, smoky scent to fill out a simple winter incense.
Medium-Complex Incense forYule
1 part Frankincense, crushed 1 part Pine Needles 1 part Myrrh
A few drops Evergreen, Cedar or other wood type oil 1-2 Crushed Oak Leaves
crush all herbs to desired consistency. (Sometimes I'll leave the resins such as Myrrh and Frankincense in tiny pieces - not powdered. It's personal choice) Blend all solids together in a glass jar. Add oil one drop at a time, mixing well after each drop. 2-3 drops is usually all I ever need.
Like all incenses, this benefits from a period of setting. Minimum is a month.
Complex Incense forYule
2 parts Frankincense, crushed 2 parts pine needles 1 part Cedar shavings
1 part Juniper Berries 1 part Orris Root 1/2 part Myrrh
10 drops Evergreen Oil 10 drops Neroli Cedar Oil A few crushed Ivy leaves
Mix ingredients as per Medium-Complex Incense above. However - be aware that this incense can be very moist, depending on the amount of oil you add. You can reduce this amount if your trial run shows it smokes too much.
